The Real World Las Vegas, Season 12, was remembered for the incredible suite that was built at the Palms Hotel. At that time the Palms was a new casino trying to make a name for its self. The Real World production team took over one end of the 28th floor, and created the suite. After shooting ended, the Real World Suite became a favorite for celebrities, bachelor party weekends, and fans of the show. The Palms took this concept of large luxurious suites and ran with it, building a second tower complete with a variety of party suites including private hot tubs, round beds, bowling alleys, basketball courts – you name it. Today the Palms is legendary for these suites – and you can still book the Real World suite for your own party. Nothing has changed, except the sheets.
When we decided to bring the twenty-second season of The Real World to Cancun, Mexico, we immediately thought of creating another amazing suite for the eight roommates in a luxury hotel – a fantasy suite on the edge of paradise. The ME Hotel, of the Melia chain of hotels, understood exactly what we wanted. We had worked with the ME Cancun before when the Hollywood roommates stayed there during a vacation in Season 20. The ME is a very stylish and classy hotel; with an amazing, warm staff that creates a wonderful vibe – from the lobby to the pools, to the beach – the ME creates a state of mind with the artwork, the food, the drinks, the spa, and the music. It’s relaxing, it’s fun, it’s sexy.
The ME understood what we wanted to do, and were willing to tolerate camera crews in the hotel for four months. In return, we would leave behind a luxury suite like no other in Cancun.
Discussions about the design of the hotel began in October. Incorporating the look and style of the ME, Production Designer Chuck Aubrey (Denver, Sydney, and Hollywood seasons) used the ME’s signature furnishings, art and sculpture, along with the Real World’s typical vibrant colors.
A total of fifteen hotel rooms were converted into what became “Suite ME”, eleven rooms on the second floor, and four rooms on the third floor. It’s a two story suite complete with four bedrooms, a kitchen, an office, a hot tub, a jellyfish tank, a confessional, and three outdoor terraces with breathtaking views of the beach and ocean.
I think The Real World Cancun “Suite ME” is without a doubt the most fabulous fantasy house we’ve ever built. We can’t wait to see the roommates’ reactions!
