The final days in the Real World house are always chaotic and full of emotion. It is like the end of college spring semester – you’re glad it’s finally coming to an end, but you know you’re going to miss it too. Everyone gets very philosophical about what they’ve learned, and how they’ve changed. After five and a half months together the roommates have lived through an unusual experience, and will forever share a special bond. As the roommates say goodbye, we see those emotional moments of hugs, tears, and final words. It is always emotional for the crews as well, and sometimes there are tears behind the scenes. While the crew wishes they could reach out and shake each roommate’s hand goodbye, we must remain professional and continue to record the documentary until the last roommate has left for the airport. The Hollywood roommates did leave a special gift for the crew in the form of an orange traffic cone. They dragged the traffic cone into the house one night many weeks ago, and it became known as “The Cone of Truth”. Almost daily they would pick up the cone and begin to announce loudly with “I predict...!”, and then go into these wild and very funny predictions about a roommate in the house, mostly having to do with relationships. The crew must have seen them play this game a hundred times, and eventually just stopped shooting when “The Cone of Truth” was brought out. So the roommates all signed the cone, and left it for the crew. Written on it were thank you notes, and special moments they recalled with specific crew members – though they didn’t really know the names of the crew. They had a lot of crazy nicknames instead. It’s funny reading – but completely inside jokes that won’t make sense here.
We promised the roommates that, like the Stanley Cup, we would pass “The Cone of Truth” on to each crew member to proudly display in their home for a short period of time before passing it on to another crew member. Thank you Will, Brianna, Nick, Sarah, Brittini, Kimberly, and Dave. And thank you Greg and Joey. We look forward to seeing the reunion premiering Saturday, July 12th at 2pm!Now it’s on to the 21st season of The Real World! Brooklyn here we come! Want to make your mark on The Real World?
