Official Statement: Joey, Drinking
The other night, Joey told the roommates he was an alcoholic. This is a surprise to us because he did not reveal that in casting – but now it explains a lot of the behavior we've seen from him. During the casting process Joey had said he had taken a lot of steroids as a bodybuilder, and had partied heavily on alcohol, and cocaine. He said he had been sober for four months and all our tests, and follow-up calls to his friends and family, confirmed that.
As producers we will follow and monitor this carefully. We did not expect to tell a story about alcohol, but now that it is here we have to document what happens. But we also have a responsibility to Joey to make sure that he does not harm himself, or his roommates. At this point I don’t think the roommates have taken his declaration very seriously, but they probably don’t have any education on how to do deal with this.
If Joey seeks help we will do everything we can to provide services or counseling for him, or direct him to the education that he is looking for.
Tune in Wednesday night to see the rest of Joey's meltdown and if the roommates can convince him to start rebuilding his life.
