For the first two weeks it feels like we have shot continuously, working our six camera teams through ten-hour shifts, seven days a week. There has been so much to shoot! We all agree that these roommates have been the easiest group we've ever worked with! They are completely open and available to the process of videotaping their lives. No filters, no barriers – they all speak their mind and disregard the cameras.
The relationships among them are changing quickly! Sarah remained true to her boyfriend, Ryan, by dismissing the advances of 1) a Hollywood ‘producer’, 2) a guy she met at a bar, and 3) her roommate Will. She has invited Ryan to visit and stay at the house soon, so we'll be looking forward to seeing how he reacts to the house – and Will.
Dave and Kimberly's relationship has really heated up, and we may have a budding romance here – though the Hollywood club scene is offering up some exciting 'associates'. Greg has found a friend in Will, and that has helped him to open up more to the rest of the roommates.
While Joey and Brianna have a real attraction for each other, Joey has some skeletons in his closet that Brianna wants no part of. At this point we don't understand all of Joey's issues but clearly there is a problem with alcohol. Through our weekly interviews and viewing the confessional tapes, we'll try to get a better picture of what is going on with Joey. But, Brianna has moved on! She is very taken with Jo Jo, a local club promoter she invited to the house last night. Joey appeared to be upset about this.
Now that the roommates have had two weeks to get to know each other, its time for them to learn about their group project. In the past this has been a job or a volunteer project, but always a unique opportunity to learn something new that takes them out of their comfort zone. For The Real World Hollywood, the roommates will be taking an improvisational comedy class together, with the goal of going on stage and performing together as a comedy troupe in a ‘showcase’.
They will be taking their classes at the IO West, formerly the Improv Olympics (the other Olympics actually threatened to sue them over the name). This class is a great way to open doors to all aspects of the entertainment business in Hollywood. The roommates will meet comedians and actors, producers and directors, and others who are just like them -- hoping to make their dreams come true.
More on the roommates’ legendary teacher and the IO West in the next blog!
