I agree with her. You do learn alot during that time. Ryan probably has missed out on some stuff, but he sure has had to learn alot of tough things. He does still act immature sometimes when around Chet that you almost forget he's a vet, but maybe he wants to play harder to counterbalance all the bad things he's saw

I only agree with her in the sense that we all grow immensely between 18-25. I don't think that it was stolen from Ryan, he made a choice. I think that we all grow thru our experiences, some are good, some are tough...
Was his growth or youth stolen any more than a teenage girl who becomes pregnant and suddenly has to become an adult quick!! No! I still think that in both situations the person still grows as a human being and is shaped by their experiences!!

She's right, but it was stolen from him. He gave it up when he joined. Now I support the troops, because I honestly care about them being in those dangerous circumstances, but I don't support warfare and militarization. Like our political system, the military and warfare is a reflection of the immaturity and barbarism of our current civilization.

I aggree with you Sarah, not just deprived him or his youth, but also the lives that have been lost, or change forever as a result of this war. Even Bush said that the war was a mistake, I wonder how he is dealing with all of this?

Ya thats life though.. Life is suffering. This isnt a perfect world. We all have things stolen from us throughout our lives. Life isn't a cake walk and it never was intended to be that way so we have to all try our best to make good out of the bad situations in our lives. Sarah shouldn't make Ryan out to be this sad case. Everyone in some way is a "sad case". We've all had our hearts broken in various ways.
